Why PR?
I have always enjoyed working with people and PR allows me to interact with a wealth of interesting individuals—whether it’s clients, the media or my fellow professionals. I also enjoy reading the news, identifying trends that my clients can comment on, and communicating these ideas to the media. With a job in PR I get to work with a variety of different clients and industries and I’m learning new things every day, which is very rewarding.
Areas of Expertise and Interest
I have a strong background in financial services with a particular focus on banking, insurance and asset management. I enjoy taking on new clients who have an interesting or unique business offering and working with them to establish a communications strategy and PR plan. One of my main roles at BlissPR is pitching the media—it is rewarding to see ideas we have pitched in print or clients commenting on the day’s markets on TV.
What I Did Before BlissPR
After I graduated with a BS in sociology, I embarked on a Master’s in Public Relations. Following a hard year of studying, drinking and generally having fun, it was time to get a job. I landed a job with a public affairs consultancy and quickly established an interest in financial services, working with some great clients providing media relations, policy advice and lobbying. I spent 3 years working in financial services public affairs before joining Weber Shandwick in London as a Senior Consultant in the financial services practice, where I worked on global financial services clients. I joined BlissPR in November 2005 and have never looked back.
What I Do for Fun
I enjoy spending time with my baby daughter Megan, and when time allows, which isn’t often with a baby, reading, playing golf, cooking, socializing with friends and shopping for shoes (much to my husband’s annoyance). I am a huge sports fan. As a Brit I spend a lot of time watching football (soccer) and cheering on my beloved Manchester United, but I have also learned to love US sports. I enjoy watching the Yankees and, for my sins, the New York Jets. I also love traveling and visiting new places—I am now up to 16 states and counting!
