Why PR?

What do the following fields have in common: literature, management consulting and marketing? Each involves storytelling. From a very early age, I’ve been fascinated by stories—what makes them interesting? memorable? effective? After studying literary stories in the US (BA degree) and the UK (graduate degree), I transitioned to the business world. There, I refined my storytelling skills, adding strategy (during a three-year stint as a consultant at McKinsey & Company) and marketing communications (during three-plus years at GE Capital, first as Marketing Services Manager and later, Director of Marketing Strategy) to my experience set. In 1998, I landed at BlissPR and have never looked back. At BlissPR, I get to write and tell some of the greatest stories imaginable—stories about retirement, health & wellness, aging, caregiving and philanthropy. I also get a chance to hone the storytelling skills of my clients through strategy sessions, messaging workshops and media training.
Areas of Expertise and Interest
Good stories require good scripts. So it’s no surprise that my favorite part of my job involves messaging—strategy, campaign development, writing and implementation.
What I Did Before BlissPR
Before joining BlissPR in 1998, I spent 10 years in strategy and marketing jobs at McKinsey & Company, Brown Brothers Harriman and GE Capital. Before that, I earned an MLit degree at the University of Edinburgh (1988) and a BA in English and Economics from Williams College (1986).
What I Do for Fun
I read, exercise and dote on the three boys in my life—husband James, oldest son Matthew and youngest son Christopher. I love sharing food and conversation with friends and family. And simple pleasures—a good movie, shopping expedition or interesting piece of music—are, for me, pure bliss.
