Why PR?

Two words: Free stuff. When I did PR for Ringling Bros. circus, I got free circus tickets. When I did PR for wineries in Napa Valley, I got free wine. At BlissPR, the “free stuff” is much more interesting. I am exposed to some of the most innovative and smart people in financial and professional services, and get an insider’s look at some of the biggest issues facing these organizations.
Areas of Expertise and Interest
In school, I studied Japanese for five years. How does that prepare me for a career in PR? Well, PR is all about translation. Translating the knowledge and expertise of a client, and turning it into something the media will care about…and ultimately write about. A perfect work day for me is analyzing survey data, or identifying a trend that my client can discuss, and brainstorming ways to repackage the information into something that the media will jump on. Lately I've become enthralled with social media and I am excited to use this new communication vehicle to pitch on behalf of clients.
What I Did Before BlissPR
I am the firm's resident Kiwi (named after the bird not the fruit!), and graduated from the University of Auckland in 1998 with Bachelor of Commerce degrees in Marketing and International Business. After living in Vancouver, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., I began my public relations career in San Francisco as an intern with Glodow Nead, a firm specializing in the travel and hospitality industries.
What I Do for Fun
As the population of my whole country, New Zealand, could fit into the crowd at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and I work on one of the busiest streets in Manhattan, my biggest joy is to get away from it all—spending time with my toddler and husband, camping, rollerblading, biking or playing Tennis. I also love to travel—both overseas and within the U.S. (39 states and counting!)
